A 16-year-old boy from Barangay Liboron in the town of Calape, Bohol, got more than he bargained for after he bought an improvised gun for PHP300.
It may not have cost that much but, ultimately, he ended up paying more for it.
“Police Officer 1 (PO1) Maria Fe Pedros, of the women and children protection desk of Calape Police Station, said that the boy and his friend had been examining the makeshift gun near a creek at around 2pm last Sun, Jul 24,” reports Leo Udtohan in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
As the boy held the gun, it accidentally fired and he was hit in the rib cage.
The report noted: “The boy was rushed to a hospital in Calape town but he was then referred to Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City. The boy underwent an operation on Tue, Jul 26, since there were shrapnel or shell fragments left in his body.”
Police are now trying to find out where the victim bought his improvised gun.
