One of two Filipino swimmers missing since they were swept out to sea off Phuket was found dead Friday afternoon.
The body was discovered by a passerby on Freedom Beach, two days after the pair were carried away from the same beach by strong waves and winds, according to Kwanchanok Tanachasakarn of the Kusoldharm Foundation, a non-profit that provides emergency assistance to tourists and residents in the island.
Kwanchanok said divers had been out again this morning looking for the missing men, but bad sea conditions and high waves hindered their progress.
Coconuts is withholding the name of the deceased until their families can be notified.
The two tourists had been swimming with other Filipino travelers Wednesday evening despite weather warnings to stay out of the water due to an approaching storm. The second missing tourist has yet to be found.
