The Filipino woman who went missing in the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that hit Taiwan Tuesday was found dead last night by Philippine officials who joined the search and rescue operations.
Melody Albano Castro, 28, of Abulug, Cagayan province was found dead in the rubble of a building in quake-hit Hualien, a city in Taiwan’s east coast, Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Chairman Lito Banayo told ABS-CBN News.
She had been working there as a caretaker.
“It is really sad because we were hoping against hope that she would be able to survive,” said Banayo.
All other Filipinos in Taiwan have been accounted for and none were hurt, he said.
According to local media reports, the death toll as of today rose to 10, while hundreds of others were injured.
From 60 people, about seven are still missing, according to Al Jazeera.
