A man’s body found in the American River on Monday is believed to be that of 19-year-old Ray Cabalfin, who went missing after jumping into the American River on May 11.

The body was discovered after hikers saw a foot sticking out of the water. The body was in a “bad shape,” reports KCRA.

The body has not yet officially been identified as that of Cabalfin, but his family posted a statement saying the Sheriff’s Department is “99% sure that the body found is him.”

“Today at 7 pm we were contacted by Sgt. Greg McKenzie that Ray was found. Two hikers saw his body and called Placer County Sheriff’s Dept. . We thank them for calling it in. The Sheriffs Dept say they’re 99% sure that the body found is him. They still need confirmation,” says the post on the Facebook page Find Ray Cabalfin.

Cabalfin jumped from a rock into the river to cool off after going hiking with friends. He was instantly carried away by the strong current.
