Blackwater exits with victory over Meralco

MANILA, Philippines – Blackwater extended Meralco’s slump by pulling off an 84-72 upset before closing out its PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign on Wednesday.

Already out of the running in the mid-season tournament, the Elite led by as much as 22 points against the Bolts to complete a graceful exit from the Commissioner’s Cup.

Marcus Douthit had 27 points and 14 rebounds for the Elite, who finished the tournament with a 3-8 record. JP Erram added 21, while Reil Cervantes chipped in 13.

Josh Davis only managed 11 points for Meralco, although he registered a total of 20 boards. Jared Dillinger top-scored the Bolts with 15.

The Bolts dropped to its third straight defeat, although they are already assured of a spot in the quarterfinals due to its 6-5 win-loss record.

The Elite were already up by 10 points after two quarters, 50-40. But a 7-2 run by Blackwater in the closing minutes of the third quarter had Meralco reeling by 20 points, 66-46.

Dillinger and Sean Anthony tried to rally the Bolts in the fourth but only managed to cut the deficit to 12 until the final buzzer.

Anthony ended up with 13 points, the same out put of teammate Mike Cortez.

Blackwater 84 — Douthit 27, Erram 21, Cervantes 13, Heruela 7, Acuna 6, Bulawan 5, Gamalinda 3, Laure 2, Timberlake 0, Reyes 0, Golla 0.

Meralco 72 — Dillinger 15, Anthony 13, Cortez 13, Davis 11, Wilson 7, Ferriols 5, Caram 3, Reyes 2, David 2, Buenafe 1, Ildefonso 0, Sena 0, Hugnatan 0, Macapagal 0.

Quarters: 26-23; 50-40; 66-46; 84-72
