Feel like spending some 10 minutes of your time daily praising Jesus’ mom to scare off the coronavirus? Well, as it happens, there’s a campaign for that.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has asked Filipinos to join a nationwide prayer crusade to fight COVID-19, where the faithful are asked to recite 10 Hail Marys at noon, every day for a full month, starting tomorrow until Sept. 15.
CBCP called it a collective prayer for “healing” to end not just the coronavirus pandemic, but also the stricter, tedious lockdowns.

“We invite all to a collective prayer action to lift the lockdowns and help heal the nation. God always listens and nothing is impossible with Him…These [prayers] will give our countrymen access to the truth that will free them from baseless fears and unnecessary anxieties,” the bishops said.

The bishops’ religious plea is far from an unnatural appeal in largely Catholic Philippines, the only Christian nation in Asia.
Several years back when the country was suffering through periods of El Niño, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle asked Pinoys to recite the “Oratio Imperata ad Petendam Pluviam,” which directly translates to the Obligatory Prayer to Request for Rain.
