Our advice: If a Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) shows up at your place, confirm their identity first by calling the agency itself.
“The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) warned the public that a fake revenue officer has been collecting money from business establishments at various malls in Manila,” reports The Philippine Star.
The BIR explained that “a revenue officer can only check an establishment’s compliance with bookkeeping rules and regulations and visits by a revenue officer should be covered by mission orders signed by the regional director.”
If you encounter fake revenue officers, call the BIR at telephone numbers (+632) 518-0604 or (+632) 518-0651.
