Why can’t people just use the term, “unfinished”?
“In a letter sent to University of Santo Tomas (UST) student newspaper, The Varsitarian (in particular, editor-in-chief Lord Bien Lelay), Office of the Vice President media affairs head Joey Salgado sought to clarify the issue raised by writer Paul Xavier Jaehwa Bernardo regarding Binay’s master of laws degree from the said university,” reports ABS-CBN News.
The report noted: “In The Varsitarian story, Bernardo said ‘the narratives on Binay’s Thomasian background are conflicting.’ Bernardo cited Binay’s biography posted on his website and his curriculum vitae uploaded to two government websites. Binay’s curriculum vitae, Bernardo noted, states that the Vice President ‘academically completed’ his master of laws in UST in 1980. Bernardo said it was’unclear whether ‘academically completed’ means ‘he finished the coursework without earning the degree, or he earned the degree after passing the comprehensive examinations and defending a thesis.'”
Salgado pointed out that “the official biography of Binay never stated that the Vice President obtained a master’s degree from the UST” and that “it clearly stated that he took masteral subjects in the university.”
Salgado explained, “The official biography of Vice President Binay, as posted at the website of the Office of the Vice President, clearly stated that he ‘took masteral subjects’ at the University of Santo Tomas. Nowhere did it claim that the Vice President earned a master’s degree from UST.”
Salgado added that “Binay was unable to finish his thesis due to his schedule as a human rights lawyer.”
