Binay: If elected, I’ll replace BIR chief 30 minutes after taking oath

Some people may find this proposition tempting.

“Speaking before the members of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. in a leadership forum late Tuesday, February 16, Vice President Jejomar Binay said that among his first acts as President, if elected, would be choosing a new head of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR),” reports Lira Dalangin-Fernandez on InterAksyon.com.

Binay was quoted as saying, “Ipapangako ko sa inyo (I promise you), within 30 minutes after I take my oath, you will have a new BIR head.”

The report noted: “The BIR is currently headed by Kim Henares, who has vigorously led campaigns against businessmen who were tax evaders.”
