Speaking of elections…here’s another issue related to the already-hot topic.
“Vice President Jejomar Binay on Sunday, September 28, made an appeal to members of Congress to reinstate the P89.6-million budget for overseas absentee voting (OAV) registration in the 2015 budget as he hit Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Butch Abad for scrapping the allocations,” reports Ernie Reyes on InterAksyon.com.
Binay was quoted as saying, “It is ironic that as we observe National Maritime Day, where we recognize the contributions and sacrifice of our seafarers, we hear that the DBM has reportedly decided to remove the budget for overseas voting in the 2015 national budget.”
He also added, “I am deeply disappointed by this development. Such a decision is a disservice to our millions of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who help sustain our economy. It violates their constitutional right to vote and provisions of the Overseas Absentee Voting Act.”
Binay, who also functions as the Presidential Adviser on OFW Concerns, pointed out that DBM should also “explain its basis for such a unilateral and arbitrary decision.”
