Where is Eduviges “Ebeng” Baloloy?
Baloloy, the longtime secretary of Vice-President Jejomar Binay , was a no-show during the Tue, Jul 7, hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee on corruption allegations against the former Makati mayor.
No information from BI
During the hearing, the Bureau of Immigration said they have no information that Baloloy and another alleged Binay aide, Gerry Limlingan, are out of the country.
Vissia Marie Aldon, head of the human resources development office of Makati City, said Baloloy filed a leave last year and has not been to her office since.
Baloloy holds the position of Special Assistant to the Mayor.
“She filed her application for leave and it was approved since last year. She is entitled to leave credits,” Aldon told senators.
Baloloy filed for early retirement
Aldon also confirmed that Baloloy is still on the payroll but noted that the latter had already filed for early retirement.
Asked how Baloloy gets her salary, Aldon said the releasing of salaries is done by the Makati finance department through the cash division.
“I really don’t have direct knowledge because I am not the one releasing her salaries,” she said.
She said half of Makati City Hall employees get their salaries in cash while the rest have ATMs.
Senate’s next moves
The Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee has issued a subpoena for the head of the cash division of the Makati finance department.
Baloloy and another aide of the Vice President, Gerardo “Gerry” Limlingan, disappeared last year after the Senate started its inquiry into allegations of corruption against the Binays.
Baloloy served as the Vice President’s personal secretary since 1986.
Former vice mayor Ernesto Mercado tagged Baloloy as one of the people he allegedly handed millions of pesos in kickbacks for Binay when he was still Makati mayor.
Joey Salgado, spokesman for suspended Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, earlier denied Baloloy received her retirement check from the city hall two days before the mayor stepped down from office last week.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Aldon also revealed that she is the sister of Supreme Court Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta. (ANC)
