Bill wants higher graveyard shift pay for BPO workers

Working “weird hours” at a business process outsourcing (BPO) spot? You have yourself a champion.

Maguindanao 2nd Distrtic Rep. Zajid Mangudadatu has filed House Bill 4414, which aims to get higher graveyard shift pay for BPO employees.

The bill wants the graveyard shift pay rate increased from 10% percent to 25% of the basic salary of BPO workers working from 10pm to 6am.

The ABS-CBNnews.com report noted: “The bill also proposes that the additional pay shall be applied in the entire BPO industry, including those that are located in information technology centers or accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).”

If approved, those who violate the stipulations of the bill will be subject to a 30-day suspension of business permit and a fine of PHP250,000.
