Bill seeks more requirements for foreigners marrying Filipinos

The bill focuses on the protection of Filipino women, but what about the Filipino men?

“The House of Representatives recently approved on second reading House Bill 2387, which prescribes additional requirements for interracial unions—an employment certificate and a certificate of good moral character be issued by the foreign national’s country’s diplomatic or consular official,” reports DJ Yap in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The bill received sponsorship in the committee on revision of laws chaired by Pangasinan Rep. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas.

The report explained that “the two new certificates are in addition to the existing requirement of a certificate of legal capacity.”

Primicias-Agabas was quoted as saying, “The bill shall protect Filipino women against exploitation of foreigners who marry without evident means to support a family.”

Our question: “But what if the Pinay happens to be richer than the foreigner and she just wants to marry him because she loves him?”
