Bill proposes death penalty foreign drug traffickers

We’re expecting the Commission of Human Rights to have something to say about this.

“The House Committee on Dangerous Drugs has endorsed for plenary passage of the proposed statute providing that foreign nationals caught violating Philippine laws be convicted and meted the harshest penalties, including death, that their own countries’ laws impose,” reports the Philippine News Agency in The Manila Times.

House Bill 1213 or “An Act adopting the higher prescribed penalty, including death, of the national law of an alien found guilty of trafficking dangerous drugs and other similar substances, amending for the purpose R.A. No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002” was authored by Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and Abante Mindanao party-list Rep. Maximo Rodriguez.

This bill may go through more discussions, as Republic Act 9346 already abolished the death penalty in the country.
