Amid moves to take out protected bike lanes in the city, the cycling community continues to forge on and help make cycling more accessible to the riding public as a safer and healthier transportation alternative.

As replacing bike parts can be costly, one neighborhood shop in Pasig City has initiated a community parts bin — collecting donated spare parts other cyclists don’t need to benefit others.

Tambay Cycling Hub in Pineda, Pasig City said that this began out of a sense of responsibility towards the community.

“Community plays a big role in why we do what we do. We’re not just talking about the cycling community, but the people of [barangay] Pineda as well,” the shop wrote online.

The owners said they wanted to make clients feel at ease while at the shop. “We want our clients to feel welcome when they’re at the shop. They can opt to borrow our tools and work on their bikes themselves in our space. Just chill so they can hang out, ask questions, and learn.”

“Our community parts bin started when a client had extra parts they wanted to donate. Since then, we’ve been able to repair some bikes from the neighborhood that needed a lot of help but with very minimal spend,” the page wrote.

Tambay Cycling Hub describes itself as being “more than a bike shop — we are a community of advocates for inclusive mobility and safer streets.”

Those who want to donate spare bike parts for Tambay Cycling Hub’s community parts bin may get in touch with them on Facebook.
