What’s on Vice President Leni Robredo’s infrastructure agenda if she wins as president in 2022? More bike lanes and projects centered on commuters and transport workers.

The presidential aspirant bared her infrastructure plans during a keynote speech with members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) at the Philippine Business Conference and Exposition on Wednesday.

Robredo said that a better balance was needed for a “better normal,” including “more bus rapid transits, better service contracts for transport workers, a just transition for transport workers, protected bike lanes, bike racks, safe pathways, better bus stops, and railways.”

The VP added that she wanted to encourage “outdoor economic activity” to reduce the risk of infection in closed and crowded areas by building more bike lanes after cycling rose in popularity as a form of transportation amid the pandemic.

“We will leverage what is already there, like outdoor parks, which we can use as markets. We will review current bike lanes, and we will build more around the country,” Robredo said, adding that she was eyeing to increase the budget for bike lanes from P1.6 billion to P14 billion.

Robredo also added that health issues should be addressed and treated as the “front-end domino” amid the pandemic.
