Bette Midler tweets: ‘Murderous dictator Duterte serenades Trump with a Filipino love song’

American singer and actress, the Divine Miss M — Bette Midler — was not amused as US President Donald Trump cozied up to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte earlier this week at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit (ASEAN) in Manila.

Duterte grabbed the mic at the ASEAN Summit gala on Sunday, during a performance by Filipino-Spanish singer Pilita Corrales, and joined her in a duet of the Filipino love song “Ikaw.”

He jokingly said he did it “upon the orders of the commander-in-chief of the United States.”

Of course, this is hardly the first time the singer has criticized Trump on Twitter. Even before Trump became president, Midler was already tweeting insults. Back in 2012, she tweeted that Trump was “ruining New York” and made fun of his hair. He then shot back by saying Midler was “extremely unattractive.”

While Duterte had previously cursed at former US President Barack Obama for criticizing his war on drugs, that antipathy for the former US president is something he and Trump have in common.

“We’ve [Duterte and I] had a great relationship,” Trump was quoted as saying in the New York Times.

If it seems like the beginning (or continuation?) of a beautiful bromance, we aren’t surprised. Manila residents who spoke to Coconuts on-camera before Trump’s arrival on Sunday pretty much predicted it.
