House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., congressman for Quezon City’s 4th District, will likely take the helm of the House of Representatives again

House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., congressman for Quezon City’s 4th District, will likely take the helm of the House of Representatives again after President Benigno Aquino III endorsed him for another term.

The endorsement was done over lunch, Manila Bulletin reports. With the administration Liberal Party’s 108 seats at the 290-seat House as well as its coalition with the Nationalist People’s Coalition, National Unity Party, and the Nacionalista Party, Belmonte is a shoo-in for the position.

Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez, president of minority party Lakas-CMD, is expected to challenge Belmonte to the post and end up as Minority Floor Leader.

Belmonte, a former Quezon City mayor, is the father of Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte. Mayor Herbert Bautista was vice mayor to then Mayor Belmonte from 2001 to 2010.
