Belgian chef reveals Duterte’s favorite dishes

Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte is not one for leading a lavish lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t appreciate well-cooked food.

Last week, Edith Regalado of The Philippine Star reported that chef Peter de Cauwer — a Belgian married to a Pinay and who speaks fluent Cebuano — will reprotedly be manning the kitchen at Malacañan Palace when incoming president Rodrigo Duterte assumes office on June 30.

“Duterte introduced Peter de Cauwer as his personal chef to journalists at Hotel Elena in Davao City,” reported Regalado.

De Cauwer revealed that Duterte’s favorite dishes include sautéed mung beans (ginisang munggo), fried dried fish and dried squid, corned beef in garlic, and fish poached in vinegar broth (paksiw na isda).

“I have no problem with those food, I could do them,” De Cauwer was quoted as saying. He added that he “looks forward to serving Duterte in Malacañan.”
