MANILA, Philippines – Controversial Rain or Shine big man Beau Belga has issued a public apology over his bad conduct against Ginebra fans during their game last Sunday.
The wide-bodied enforcer was recently slapped a P70,000 fine for insulting the fans, as well as for his skirmishes with Ginebra players Mark Caguioa, Emman Monfort and Chris Ellis.
In an interview on CNN Philippines, Belga said sorry to the supporters of the Gin Kings, as well as to the fans of Rain or Shine.
“Kung ano man ang nagawa ko noong Sunday, humihingi ako ng paumanhin. Sorry sa PBA fans, sorry sa inyo sa Ginebra fans, especially sa Rain or Shine fans, kasi sila ‘yung pinahiya ko eh,” he said.
Belga reacted badly against the fans last Sunday after he got booed by the pro-Ginebra dominated crowd at the Cuneta Astrodome last Sunday.
Fans started mocking the 6-foot-6 power forward after he got tangled with Caguioa on the floor. Some of them even hurled water bottles on the court.
Belga responded by taunting the fans, repeatedly flashing a dirty finger and doing the “suck it” gesture usually done in the WWE.
“Ako ‘yung player na sobrang competitive. Hindi ako ‘yung basta, basta susuko. Pag may nakita akong tsansa na manalo, talagang ginagrab ko, at emotional player din ako,” explained Belga after the game.
Despite the boos, Rain or Shine managed to win the game, 82-79, after trailing Ginebra by 18 points.
Belga was later fined P30,000 by the PBA for his clashes against Caguioa, Monfort and Ellis.
He was also ordered to pay an additional P40,000 “for taunting, provoking and scoffing at the fans with the use of a dirty finger and other offensive verbal and physical gestures.”
