According to Pinoyfitness, marshalls wanted to pull out the “begarrunner” out of the route, but since he was wearing a valid race bib, he had the right to run.
Well, he wasn’t really a beggar. He was a fit runner, a duathlete, in fact.
The guy behind the beggar get-up was Larry Ronquillo. Instead of the usual running gear, he opted to sport a beggar’s costume for the race last Mar 13.
It wasn’t just a meaningless stunt. The beggarrunner actually collected trash as he ran.
That’s one way of encouraging runners to think green in their races. The begarrunner is now being invited to other races to promote his advocacy.
