Bayugan City mayor admits he was once a shabu addict

He’s lucky he didn’t get killed during his drug-hazed days.

On Mon, Jul 11, Kim Lope Asis — the 41-year-old mayor of Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur — surprised everyone gathered at the city gymnasium when he revealed to more than 1,000 confessed drug peddlers and users that he had been addicted to shabu when he was younger.

The 1,000 drug peddlers and users had surrendered to the police.

“Asis explained he was sent to a drug rehabilitation center several times in the past because of his addiction. As a young man, he said, he was his parents’ source of headaches. His parents were longtime mayors of Bayugan City. Asis, however, said he managed to change his ways,” reports Inquirer.net.

Asis was quoted as saying, “I did not see any good thing that shabu could bring to our lives.”

It remains to be seen if Asis’ revelation will encourage more drug pushers and addicts to quit their criminal habit.
