Battle for Manila moves to Supreme Court

Despite a lead of around 35,000 votes over incumbent Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim in the May elections, Mayor-elect Joseph Ejercito Estrada’s stay at City Hall still faces opposition

According to reports, the Supreme Court has given Lim permission to intervene in a disqualification case filed against Estrada by Alicia Vidal, a lawyer associated with Lim. Vidal filed her petition  before the SC after the Commission on Elections said it would allow Estrada to run despite his conviction for plunder as it did in the 2010 elections.

The Comelec said in 2010 that the “executive clemency granted to the former President being absolute and unconditional and having been accepted by him, the same can no longer be revoked or be made subject to a condition.”

Estrada has to comment on Lim’s petition, which has been consolidated with Vidal’s.

Within days of the May elections, Lim acknowledged that Estrada had won and wished him and Vice Mayor Isko Moreno good luck.
