Batac tourism declines after Marcos burial

Tourist arrivals at Batac, Ilocos Norte, takes a hit barely a week after the burial of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City.

The Ferdinand Marcos Presidential Center in Batac housed the cenotaph of the late dictator for decades prior to his hushed and huried burial on Nov. 18.

Business has slowed down for vendors who sell snacks in what used to be popular tourist spot.

Governor Imee Marcos and city mayor Albert Chua are seeking to revive local tourism by promoting Batac as the ‘city of parks’ in Ilocos Norte, Manila Bulletin reports.

Batac has seven parks, which will be re-designed and re-engineered. The government plans to connect the parks to lure back tourists in the area.
