A game of basketball became too intense when a man died and two other people were injured after they were allegedly stabbed by one of their opponents yesterday in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur.

ABS-CBN News identified the suspects as brothers Lestlie and Jenises Percalin, while the victims were Joy Indita, and brothers Jason and Jonathan Lumontad.

PO3 Ace Cabalit told Coconuts Manila that the victims were playing basketball with the suspects in Purok 1, Barangay (Village) Kahayagan when they got into a heated argument. Cabalit said that the game became physical and escalated into a brawl.

Cabalit added that Lestlie allegedly pulled out a knife from his bag and stabbed the victims. He then fled the scene with his brother Jenises.

The victims were rushed to the hospital, however, Jason was declared dead on arrival. Cabalit said that the other two victims are now in stable condition.

The police pursued the suspects who were arrested at the Mangagoy Bus terminal in Bislig City.

While it was only Lestlie who did the stabbing, Cabalit said that the two suspects will both face charges of homicide and double frustrated homicide.
