Banned skin-whitening products still sold in Manila

EcoWaste Coalition national coordinator Aileen Lucero reported that stores in Quiapo, Sta. Cruz and Divisoria were still selling skin-whitening products which have been banned by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

According to Inquirer News, the following products were found to have high mercury content and have been banned for sale in the Philippines:

— “Beauty Girl Green Cucumber Double Whitening Soft Essence Cream”
— Jiaoli Miraculous Cream
— Jiaoli 7-Days Eliminating Freckle AB Set
— S’Zitang
— Natural Orange Whitening and Anti-Aging Package
— Yoko Whitening Cream with SPF-15
— Yoko Gentleman Cream
— Aichun Pawpaw Fade Out Cream
— Bai Li Tou Hong Cream
— Aichun Beauty Cream with Green Tea Essence
— Aichun Beauty Green Tea Whitening Speckle Removing Series Cream
— Miss Beauty Excellent Therapy Whitening Cream

Citing the World Health Organization, EcoWaste Coalition said mercury has been banned for causing discoloration, scarring, reduced resistance to infection, and kidney problems. The group said in the report that the rampant selling of banned beauty products makes Manila the “cosmitoxic” capital of the country.
