The public was alerted, authorities were called in — but it turns out that the suspicious item was actually steaming hot rice.
The Explosive Ordinance Division of the Quezon City Police Department swarmed a bazaar in Commonwealth Avenue after receiving a call alerting them about a suspicious-looking black bag, local media reported on Sat evening.
Stall owners and shoppers in the area were panic-struck because smoke was coming out of the bag.
“Nakaupo ako sa aking puwesto, pinuntahan ako ng isang miyembro ko na nagsasabing may iniwan dito na bag. So hindi ko pinagalaw, tumawag agad ako sa baranggay,” said stall owner Diamond Kalaw in a report by GMA News.
(I was in my stall when one of my members approached me saying that a bag was left behind. I didn’t let anyone touch it, I asked for help from the local government.)
The police cordoned off the area as officers opened the mystery bag. They were surprised to discover newly cooked rice inside.
Yep, the pile of rice was just stuffed inside the bag.
Authorities are still hunting down the owner of the black bag.
