A 7-month-old baby used as a human shield by a suspected drug user was shot by the police during a police operation in Pandacan Manila.
Baby Allie received gunshot wounds on his foot, torso, and stomach.
The drug suspect Edwin Pore allegedly barged into the house of the baby’s grandmother Jocelyn Roxas as he was being chased by five members of the Manila Police District.
Pore went straight to the second floor of the house and grabbed baby Allie and his four-year-old sister, who was able to escape.
The police said that the suspect initiated the gun battle and they shot back in defense.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, Roxas insisted that it was a police officer who shot her grandson.
Pore was eventually killed and the police officers were able to recover packets of shabu (methamphetamine) and a pen gun from his body.
The operation also led to the arrest of Roxas’ husband, who was also a suspected drug user.
Roxas admitted that she knew Pore but she insists that her husband is innocent.
Baby Allie’s family is asking for financial help to cover medical expenses.
