Azkals lose to Indonesia

The Philippines poor run against Indonesia continued on Wednesday with a 2-0 friendly defeat at the Manahan Stadium in Surakarta.

The Azkals are yet to beat Indonesia in a football match since the sides started playing each other 22 matches ago.

The Azkals missed the services of first-choice keeper Neil Etheridge, who plays for Fulham in the English Premier League, and fast-rising striker Javier Patino, who was tied up with Thai side Buriram United.

The Indonesians were very aggressive right from the start and their defence subdued any Azkal attack. Indonesia took the lead when Nwokolo converted a tight pass to score past Filipino keeper Ed Sacapano in the 31st minute. Indonesian midfielder Muhammad Roby scored the second goal in the 66th minute, flicking in a header from a corner kick.

The game was part of the Azkal’s preparations for the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup.
