It’s sad yet exciting at the same time.
“With Mandarin Oriental Hotel closing its doors this year, Makati City may again lose one of its oldest hotels. This time, it’s the Hotel Intercontinental Manila,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
The InterCon, which is located at the corner of Ayala Avenue and EDSA, opened its doors in 1969.
Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) is planning to redevelop the Hotel InterCon area into a mixed-use property by 2016. Among the structures the company is planning to build is a 10,000 square meter convention center.
In an interview with ANC, ALI president Bobby Dy disclosed, In 2016, we’re going to be looking at the InterCon area, that’s a two-hectare parcel, to have another mixed-use development. The cost would be around PHP15 billion.”
But Dy said plans have not been finalized for the InterCon property. He explained, “We will probably have to look for a new site for the InterCon. It could actually be there or at another site.”
The future project is part of Ayala Land’s PHP65-billion investment in the redevelopment of Makati City.
