Can’t we just all get along?
Australian YouTuber Ozzy Man (real name: Ethan) poked fun at the brawl that occurred between the Philippine and Australian basketball teams by posting a video commentary yesterday titled BasketBrawl.
With the hashtag #StillFriends, Ozzy Man described the incident that happened on Monday at the Philippine Arena where “long limbs and size 52 shoes were being weaponized,” and described a flying kick from one of the Australian players as something “that took 300 years to execute.”
Appearing to be a fan of Filipino cuisine, he also said: “There’s a Filipino restaurant down the road [from where I live] that I really like so I hope we can still be friends.”
Ozzy Man, who in the comments section said he has a strong Filipino fanbase, wrote that he just wants Australians and Filipinos to just get along. “Just be friends instead, ay,” he wrote.
Not surprisingly, the video now has more than 346,000 views on YouTube and 2.5 million views on Facebook.
Watch the video below for a laugh. It also comes subtitled — great for those who have a hard time understanding the Australian accent.
The video has earned its fair share of fans, of course.
One of the top commenters is someone who appears to be Xian S. Gaza, he of the infamous billboard stunt.
Gaza, who was recently sentenced to more than five years in prison for violating the Bouncing Check Law, used the video as an opportunity to teach Ozzy Man the Filipino version of “damn”– his favorite moniker “nyeam.”
Meanwhile, someone wondered why the other Australian players didn’t defend their teammates.
Another wondered why a foreign-looking “eight-foot” player was representing the Philippines.
The melee, which occurred midway through the FIBA World Cup qualifier, has polarized fans and was even called by some Filipino basketball players as embarrassing.
But if you have any doubt, Ozzy Man states that in spite of what happened, we are “#StillFriends.” Or at least he thinks we should be.
