Ateneo’s Alyssa Valdez, being eyed as the country’s SEA Games flagbearer

Ateneo’s lady eagle Alyssa Valdez might just be the Philippines’ flagbearer at the 28th Southeast Asian Games, to be held in Singapore from June 5-16.

“A highly placed source from the Philippine Olympic Committee said the choices for the flag-bearer are down to two — Valdez, a two-time UAAP MVP who led the Ateneo Lady Eagles to back-to-back UAAP championships, and wushu’s Daniel Parantac,” writes Joey Villar on Philstar.com.

While a decision is expected sometime next week, talk about the scale tipping in Valdez’s favor is ripe.

Philstar’s source mentions two factors: One is Valdez’s popularity and the other is that our women’s volleyball team is returning after a 10-year absence in the games.
