Ateneo student says she was really kidnapped!

The confusion continues in the kidnapping tale that seems to have so many versions.

On Nov 29, Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) VP for Administration Fr. Nemesio Que, SJ released a statement saying that a student was abducted inside the north car park of the campus between 6 and 630 pm last November 21. He said the student had been released unharmed and even without her parents paying the PHP250,000 ransom demanded by the kidnappers.

However, Chief Superintendent Richard Albano, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, later said that “no kidnapping occurred.”

Then, on Thursday, Dec 5, an ABS-CBNnews.com report revealed that the kidnapped student told The Guidon, AdMU’s student newspaper, that the QCPD had it wrong. As the report revealed: “She said she and her parents have already sent an official statement to their lawyers for reviewing.” The kidnapped student was quoted as saying, “We’re gonna let our statements do as much of the talking.”

A TV Patrol report later identified the kidnapping victim as Bea Mata, 20, a fourth year college student. The report revealed that she had been overpowered by a group of men as she was getting into her car. The men had covered her eyes and then kept her for seven hours. They then suddenly left her in the car. After a few moments, she removed the bonnet that had been placed over her eyes and then called for help.

The Mata family says they were dismayed by the police’s theory that their daughter had allegedly staged the kidnapping.
