It’s not unusual for President Rodrigo Duterte to pick up a microphone and sing for his friends and family. Afterall, Filipinos are known for their passion for karaoke.
So when United States President Donald Trump asked Duterte to show off his singing chops during the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) Summit gala dinner last night, it came to no surprise that the Philippine president happily obliged.
Karen Jimeno, the public works undersecretary and former news anchor tweeted a clip of the performance.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I sang an invited duet with Ms. Pilita Corrales upon the orders of the Commander-in-chief of the United States,” Duterte can be heard saying in the video.
Pilita Corrales is a Filipino-Spanish singer who has been performing in the Philippines since the 1950s.
