As expected – Psy sang ‘Gangnam Style’ more than once for Manila concert

Singer Psy may be a huge star in Korea for over a decade now but for the rest of the world, he is a one-hit wonder (well, so far), thanks to that smash hit “Gangnam Style.” So when news broke late last year that he would be holding a concert in the Philippines, everyone wondered about what he’d be doing the whole duration of the concert – sing “Gangnam Style” again and again and again?

Well, the concert – which was originally scheduled in December 2012 but was postponed – finally happened, and Psy didn’t perform just “Gangnam Style.”

Taking place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena last Feb. 16, the concert started off with production numbers and stand-up comedy routines by Ai Ai de las Alas, Wally Bayola and Jose Manalo. These three are a fun bunch, but some of their jokes that night turned out to be a little too PG or even R-18 for some members of the audience. A lot of kids were present during the concert and according to Inquirer, some of the parents even left the venue because of this, and then just returned for Psy’s portion.

Everyone, of course, was ecstatic when Psy finally appeared onstage (maybe because he was originally scheduled to go onstage at 8 p.m. but did so only after two and a half hours).

According to MB.com.ph, the Korean rapper-singer performed other songs apart from the worldwide hit “Gangnam Style.” He sang “Right Now,” “It’s Art,” “Paradise,” and “Champion” – songs we’re pretty sure 99 percent of the audience have never heard of.

Let’s face it, everyone was there for “Gangnam Style.” So when the first few beats of the song started to play, everyone instantly recognized the song and went cray-cray.

Naturally, the audience asked for more after Psy finished performing the song. Interestingly, he performed it again, but on one condition: everyone had to put their phones and tablets and cameras down, and instead dance with him like crazy.

And you know what, everyone did.

Before exiting, Psy announced what his next single was going to be and asked for everyone to keep on supporting him.

Guess we have to wait for a couple of months and see whether Psy, when the rest of the world is concerned, is really just a one-hit wonder or not.

In the meantime, we can go watch all those “Harlem Shake” versions on YouTube.
