An artist who has been painting his father’s tomb every year has gone viral on social media.
Jae Valencia, who paints commissioned murals for a living, has been turning his father’s nitso in Pateros into colorful murals for a decade, illustrating elements that remind him of his late parent.
Valencia’s dad, Jerry Valencia, died of a heart attack in 2008.
“This has been my yearly pledge for my late father for around 10 years now,” Valencia wrote on his Facebook page, Muros by Jae. “Since I’ve become an artist because of him. I usually paint designs that are connected to him—plants, his hobbies, (et cetera).”
Valencia’s post showcases some of the most memorable murals he has created over the years that also chronicles his growth as an artist.
Some of Valencia’s most striking tomb murals include a pack of cigarettes, as well as green foliage.
“I never got the chance to show him where I am now and how far I’ve become as an artist, but I hope wherever he is right now, he is proud of me,” Valencia wrote.
“I know it’s late and I will never see his reaction with my artworks. So if you still have the chance to show your parents how much you love them, do it,” he said.
