Arrested cop pleads not guilty to torture

The arrested police officer accused of torturing a suspect inside a police station in Tondo, Manila on Wednesday entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment at the Manila Regional Trial Court.

ABS CBN News reported that dismissed senior inspector Joselito Binayug denied allegations that he tortured suspect Darius Evangelista in March 2010.

The first hearing of the case against him and six other policemen has been set for June 19.

Two years after the incident, Binayug was arrested on Monday while renewing his driver’s license at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Tayuman.
