Arrested in Alabang: Fake real estate agent who allegedly scammed OFWs

Folks, be careful about the people you encounter online.

On Wed morning, Dec 14, operatives of the Cybercrime Division of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducted an entrapment operation against an alleged fake real estate agent identified as Johanna Jane Alano.

Alano reportedly promoted herself as a real estate agent through social media. She then supposedly offered bogus house and lot deals to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). She allegedly told them that she was selling houses located inside a subdivision in Cavite.

An exclusive report by GMA News’ John Consulta on 24 Oras quoted various OFWs and seafarers as saying that Alano, promised to handle their payments for the house and lots they bought. After a year of payment, the victims learned that their money never reached the developer’s office.

Alano denied the accusations against her, saying “Hindi po [ako real estate agent]. May fina-follow up lang po.”

(“I’m not a real estate agent. I was just following up on something.”)

“The NBI said Alano faces estafa charges in accordance to the Cybercrime Prevention Act on top of other criminal complaints to be filed by the victims against her,” reports Joseph Tristan Roxas on GMA News Online.
