The Philippine National Police should screen its recruits better, a Quezon City Police District official said after rookie cops were arrested for alleged robbery and extortion.
Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao, QCPD deputy director, said in a Manila Bulletin report that the PNP has do more thorough background investigations of its recruits.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) yesterday expressed the need to screen police recruits following the arrest of rookie policemen allegedly engaged in robbery and extortion activities.
Police Officers 1 Ryan Parungo, Dennis Maagda, and Ronnel Biag of QCPD Station 9 face charges of extortion and robbery from a complaint by a certain Renato Bautista. Bautista has accused the policemen of robbing him of P800, a watch, and a mobile phone.
The three allegedly threatened to charge Bautista with alarm and scandal if he didn’t give them P10,000. He was able to convince the cops to let him go to Cavite and fetch the money. He left his mobile phone and watch with the cops as collateral.
Bautista then asked for help at QCPD Station 2.
