Army reservist identified by Manila Police District as driver who killed bicycle rider

The Manila Police District (MPD) officially identified Army reservist Vhon Tanto as the Hyundai Eon driver who killed bicycle rider Mark Vincent Garalde along P. Casal Street in Quiapo, Manila on Monday night, July 25.

“Tanto shot Garalde once in the head and then fired four more shots at him when he was already slumped on the pavement. Garalde then fled from the scene,” reports Rey Galupo in The Philippine Star.

An 18-year-old girl living near the area also got hit by a stray bullet from the shots fired by Tanto.

The MPD gave Tanto until 5pm on Wed, Jul 27 to surrender but neither he or anyone representing him showed up.  Sr. Supt. Joel Napoleon Coronel, MPD acting director, declared, “The full strength of the Manila Police District will go after him. Dead or alive, we want him.”

“The Philippine Army said it will also help locate Tanto, who is assigned with the 1301st Community Defense Center, National Capital Regional Community Defense Group of the Army Reserve Command based in Caloocan City,” reports GMA News Online.
