A security guard was killed and a cashier severely injured after two men robbed the gas station they work at in the town of Villanueva, Misamis Oriental yesterday.
Suspects Reymark Jay Pumatong, 27, and Bernie Doldol, 28, were arrested by the authorities for allegedly robbing a Phoenix Gas Station in the village of Katipunan at dawn yesterday, reported Diaryo Bomba.
The two arrived at the gas station onboard a motorcycle at a little past 3am. Pumatong allegedly took the firearm of security guard Dominico Servandel while the latter was sound asleep. The suspect then shot the guard in the head, killing him instantly.
Authorities later found out that the two suspects were part of Lux Interna, the same security agency the victim worked for.
Pumatong also shot the station’s pregnant cashier Axcel Rose Gemino on the face, which left her seriously injured, reported The Philippine Daily Inquirer. She was brought to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center for treatment.
The two suspects stole PHP25,000 (US$489) from the station’s cash register and managed to escape. A few minutes after the gas station heist, they allegedly went to the nearby village of Bugo where they tried to rob a convenience store but failed, reported ABS-CBN News.
Authorities later tracked down Pumatong at Lim Ket Kai and Sons, an oil manufacturing facility located in the village of Katipunan where he worked as a head guard. Meanwhile, Doldol was arrested in his house in the village of Santa Cruz in Tagaloan town.
Pumatong said he committed the crime because he needed money for his pregnant wife, who needs to undergo a cesarean section.
The two suspects will be charged with robbery with homicide and are detained at the Villanueva police station.
