Who knew that Wattpad fans can get this intense?
A 16-year-old who writes for the publishing website reported that she was bullied by an obsessed fan of another Filipino author, with the latter even cursing her online.
The threatened fictionist, who prefers to be known simply as Elyysiian, wrote in a now-viral post that she felt embarrassed for being the object of such threats from a fan of a writer named Gwy.

“No one actually knows that I write on Wattpad. I didn’t also expect that I would post this because I don’t know what to do anymore. These words are below the belt. I’m just new and I know I’m not doing anything wrong. I can’t sleep anymore from over thinking,” she said in her post, which has been shared almost 9,000 times.

The young author shared screenshots of the messages she received from a Wattpad reader named Gwy is the Queen. In one, the latter said, “Your stories are so bad. Stop writing and just read the stories of Gwy. She’s the queen.”

In another, the obsessed fan wrote, “Hi. Can you stop writing and support mami gwy instead? I’m begging you to do that. You are nowhere near Mami Gwy so please stop, ha. Your stories are irritating.
“You son of a b*tch. Famewhore. Famewhore,” the unhinged reader added.

In another message, the harasser wrote, “You son of a b*tch. All of you underrated authors have awful stories.”

In an interview chat with Coconuts Manila, Elyysiian said she started receiving the threats on Wattpad a week ago. While she didn’t want to go public at first, she decided to do so because of several factors.
“My first reason was that I need someone to encourage me to continue writing. Getting those messages messed up my confidence [in my talent] and drained me of my enthusiasm,” she said in English and Filipino.
“Second is to spread awareness because a lot of authors are being treated that way on Wattpad. Some [fans] are even sending death threats [to other writers]. I want to spread awareness especially to those aspiring authors like me. Also to share what I feel,” she added.
Her family and friends were far from amused when they saw the threats.
“My mom and friends were really mad. They cheered me up so that I would continue writing. I’m happy that my mama didn’t tell me to stop [writing stories],” Elyssiian added.
“After I posted those [messages on Facebook] I didn’t go online on any of my social media accounts and I just wrote and continued to develop one of my stories. I just kept writing so that I could forget about those [threats]. When I checked [my account again], many saw my post, which I didn’t expect at all,” the high school student added.
Good on you, girl. Ignore the haters and just keep writing!
