Archbishop Oscar Cruz slams love potions, offers advice to singles

In time for Valentine’s Day, somebody had to ask Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz to weigh in on the concept of “gayuma” or love potions.

“Cruz said it is not prudent and wise to believe and depend on love potions,” reports Philippines News Agency correspondent Ferdinand G. Patinio on InterAksyon.com

Cruz was quoted as saying, “The so called love potion is, to say the least, a recourse in desperation. Maybe those who could not find somebody to love him or her take recourse to that love concoction as some source of hope.”

As for those in search of partners, Cruz had this to say: “Pwede sila magdasal kahit kaninong santo (They can pray to any saint): Saint Jude, Saint Valentine. Saint Jude is the saint of the impossible or the hopeless but any novena to anybody is good like Mother Mary. The important thing is prayer. All prayer ultimately ends up on the lap of God. It’s good to pray for somebody who is right for you.”

Our tip: If you’re really looking, go with Saint Jude.
