It’s ironic that while the Banaue Rice Terraces is in danger of being removed from the list of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Sites due to a proposed parking building, it’s actually being used as an inspiration for the welcome reception of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

“The setup for the APEC Leaders’ welcome reception on Wed, Nov 18, at the Mall of Asia Arena evokes the World Heritage Banaue Rice Terraces, with the leaders seated around a multi-level stage accented with rice seedlings,” reports Aurea Calica in The Philippine Star.

The report noted: “The styling is done by Cebu-based internationally renowned designer Kenneth Cobonpue, whose iconic Yoda chair (see photo), made of rattan strips done in rice green, will be used by the leaders. The chairs can swivel to allow viewing of the performances on raised stages set up around the arena.”
