The police are studying three motives behind the killing of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija mayor Ferdinand Bote, who was gunned down yesterday afternoon.

In an interview with radio station DZMM earlier this morning, Central Luzon police director Chief Supt. Amador Valera Corpus said authorities think the motive behind the killing of Bote may have something to do with the quarrying operations in Nueva Ecija, his family’s construction business, or political issues tied with the upcoming 2019 elections.

Corpus also said that based on the CCTV obtained from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) compound where Bote was shot, there were three suspects riding in motorcycles, instead of two, as was initially reported.

Bote was onboard his Toyota Fortuner when he was shot at close range at around 5:30 pm. He was declared dead on arrival at the MV Gallego Hospital. He reportedly died from at least five bullet wounds.

Meanwhile, Malacañang said they will give their full support to investigate Bote’s killing, which comes at the heels of the murder of Tanauan, Batangas mayor Antonio Halili, who died earlier this week during a flag-raising ceremony at city hall.

Said Philippine Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque: “We assure everyone that we would discharge the state obligation for every murder. We will spare no effort in getting to the bottom of this latest violent crime.”

Aaron Aquino, the chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), said that Bote is not included in the agency’s narcotics watchlist.

On the other hand, Halili has been included in PDEA’s list in 2016. His family denies that the late mayor was involved in narcotics.
