After news of a pangolin found in the posh Ayala Alabang neighborhood broke in August this year, here comes another one: yet another pangolin was apparently discovered in Quezon City in late November this year.

All’s well that ends well, however—Vertis, the male pangolin, is now safely back in his habitat in Palawan after being flown on Cebu Pacific.

Resident Joward Calle found Vertis at the dormitory of the Department of Labor and Employment, according to environmentalist Anna Varona.

The pangolin was nicknamed Vertis upon his rescue, as the dormitory is adjacent to Ayala Malls Vertis North. The pangolin was immediately placed under the custody of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB) Wildlife Rescue Center, according to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development.

Vertis, who measures 1.11 meters and weighs 4.3 kilos, was reportedly found to be healthy but with a few ticks. The DENR quickly arranged for the pangolin’s swift repatriation.

The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development lists the pangolin as a critically endangered species and has been widely hunted for its scales and meat, as used in Eastern traditional medicine.
