Authorities had no choice but to postpone the demolition of an alleged illegal settlement in a 400-square meter lot in J. Bocobo Street in Malate, Manila on Fri, Mar 18, after an angry mob barricaded the compound entrance and threatened to throw stones and glass bottles at them.
“Court Sheriff Ricardo Simeon of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 19 presented the demolition order to residents, saying the court deemed Land Hike Development Corporation as the legitimate owner of the lot. Residents, however, also showed documents supposedly proving their claim to the property occupied by some 100 families,” reports ABS-CBN News.
Rene Mahinay, vice president of the Bacobo Homeowners’ Association, accused the firm of forging documents for its land claim.
The report noted: “Police will meet with the court sheriff to iron out the implementation of the demolition order.”
