Angelika dela Cruz’s political rival denies involvement in last week’s assault

And the plot thickens. Or thins.

The candidate for barangay kagawad (councilman) linked to the attack on actress Angelika dela Cruz last week has denied involvement in the assault.

Buddha delos Reyes, a candidate under the ticket of Dela Cruz’ rival, told Philippine Star that he isn’t a relative of the suspect, Pedro Becondado, who was reported to be handcuffed to his hospital bed at Tondo Medical Center.

The suspect had claimed he was a relative of delos Reyes, leading police to believe the attack on the actress was politically motivated.

Dela Cruz is running for the barangay chair post. Her father had held the same post until he was dismisssed in May by the Office of the Ombudsman for graft.

She earlier filed charges of frustrated murder and violation of the omnibus election code against the suspect.
