Angat Dam status: Below critical level for irrigation

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has announced that the water level of Angat Dam has hit below critical level for irrigation.

PAGASA said the dam’s water level dipped by 22 centimeters to 179.98 meters on Tuesday morning, breaching the dam’s 180-meter critical level for irrigation.

Dam operators are expected to stop releasing water for irrigation for farm lands in Bulacan and parts of Pampanga because of this development.

Angat Dam’s priority is to supply water to Metro Manila’s water concessionaires, followed by power generation of the National Power Corp., and then the irrigation needs of Bulacan and Pampanga farms.

The dam is important for Metro Manila as this supplies around 97 percent of the capital’s water demands.
