That’s right! In case you haven’t seen the Yahoo story about a few of Tennis’ royalties coming to town this November, allow us to inform you: That’s right, you are. World number 6 Andy Murray is headlining the Manila leg of the premiere season of the International Premiere Tennis League (IPTL).
“The IPTL, originally slated to be in Bangkok, Thailand, has been moved to the Philippines because of the political unrest in the Thai capital,” writes Bob Guerrero on Yahoo Philippines. Manila is one of the four host cities, which include Singapore, Mumbai, and Dubai. Matches will happen from November 28 until mid-December.
Along with Murray, who’s won in Wimbledon and the US Open, Spanish vet Carlos Moya, Jo-Wilfred Tsonga of France, Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka, Canadian Daniel Nestor, and Fil-Am Treat Huey complete the Manila team.
The ITPL headliners are well-spread across all four cities with Mumbai getting Tennis numero uno Rafael Nadal and 90s Tennis rockstar Pete Sampras; Novak Djokovic and Martina Hingis are Dubai’s banner stars; while Singapore’s are Serena (not-Dalyrmple) Williams and Andre Agassi.
According to the report, the last time Manila witnessed a big-named Tennis event was in April 1989 when the famous archrivals Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe “squared off in an exhibition match at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium dubbed ‘Fire and ice.'”
Tickets go on sale in June.
